How this medicine should be used
Aminopentamide is FDA approved for use in veterinary medicine. The usual dose in dogs and cats up to 10 lbs is ½ tablet. For 11-20 lbs give 1 tablet, for 21-50 lbs give 1 ½ tablets, for 51-100 lbs give 2
tablets and for 101 lbs and over give 2 ½ tablets. The dose may be repeated every 8 to 12 hours.
What are the side effects
Side effects of aminopentamide may include dry mouth, dry eyes, blurred vision and difficulty urinating.
What special precautions are there Aminopentamide should not be used in animals
allergic to it or other anticholinergic drugs. This medication should not be used in animals with glaucoma, stomach or intestinal obstruction, heart disease, urinary obstruction, liver disease, hyperthyroidism, high
blood pressure, or esophageal reflux. Use with caution when given with antihistamines, procainamide, quinidine, meperidine, benzodiazepine tranquilizers and phenothiazines. This medication may enhance the effect of
nitrofurantoin, thiazide diuretics and compounds related to epinephrine. There are no known food interactions. Always tell your veterinarian and pharmacist what other medications your pet is taking.
